Healthy Planet, Healthy Me

Thursday April 22nd was marked as Earth Day, a date dedicated to supporting environmental protection.

Earth Day is celebrated by hundreds of countries around the world with the will to work together in new actions that will help to protect the planet.

We all know the wider impact of looking after our planet (or maybe more, the damage which occurs when we do not take care) and why we so appreciate the goodness we personally take from Mother Nature — water, oxygen, fruits, wildlife.

So many of us cite nature as being a key player in managing our own health and lifestyles, too.

As with kindness for others, looking after our environment can also make us feel good — physically and mentally. Traffic reduction and tree planting is working! Purifying the atmosphere and reducing pollution is helping the health of the air and the people that breathe it in.

Take Bogota, Columbia, where communities marked Earth Day with nationwide tree planting to raise awareness of the climate crisis. If you’re needing some inspiration this Monday morning, spend a few minutes listening to 11-year-old activist, Francisco Vera, who talks about this ever so passionately and eloquently — https://abcnews.go.com/International/video/11-year-colombian-activist-plants-hundreds-trees-earth-77269394

What will your contribution be to help the planet and, as a result, make you feel pretty good too.

Ditch fast fashion in favour of more sustainable styles? — the H&M Conscious range is created with a little extra consideration: at least 50% of each piece is made from more sustainable materials, like organic cotton or recycled polyester. Cue spring staples such as billowy dresses and adorable knit cover-ups.

Go greener with your cleaners? — there are many non-toxic and bleach-free cleaning solutions out there to help kill us germs and not our brain cells. The result — your bathroom now smells like a spa with natural and fragrant aromas (I’m looking at you, Method ‘ginger yuzu’)

Walk (or cycle) the talk?those who live locally can reap the rewards of ditching the traffic and boost their morning endorphins. Benefitting both the greater good and your own cardiovascular system and mental health. The weather is good, why not integrate this into your week?

Happy Monday 🙂
